v1.07 Release

(Forgot to update here a few weeks ago, sorry about that! I got feedback from my patrons that the game was too fast/difficult so in subsequent builds I make it a bit easier. Good luck!)

Wowza. Did I expect for this chapter to be the longest so far? No. Is it? Yes.

It turns out that I'm horrible with estimating the length of things when it comes to story. Now, the 1,547 lines aren't all viewable in a single run. A single run is probably about 800-1,000 depending on prior choices and actions during the chapter but there's some replayability with the last part at least.

Main Updates

  • Chapter 6 for Spiff - In the Courtyard Spiff will teach you some fundamental Raven techniques and have you attempt to use them on him. Close contact may have an unintended consequence on certain parts of your body.
  • Timed menu options - I added a new functional ability so that certain menu choices can have a countdown if urgency is important. Fear not, the one used in this chapter can't be 'failed' and getting the wrong answers first present some additional dialogue. I plan to use this function in later chapters though where there may be some small 'fail' conditions.
  • Keyboard game - Another new functional ability I added in near the end of the chapter. It'll require somewhat fast reaction time if you want to show a skilled Raven what you're capable of. I suggest a save file after you learn about 'sweeps' for easier retries. You get some nice story either way so I recommend trying for both, honestly.

Up next I'm not sure what I'm going to do first, honestly. It's Easter weekend so I'm tied up with family and won't be getting anything accomplished for TDA. Based on the poll for Spiff's sprite I'm good with his face which means I can start drawing his facial updates but I need to redo his outfit. Then there's going back and updating nearly 2k Spiff lines with his face through prior chapters T.T It's times like these I wish I wasn't a solo dev.

BUT it's all part of the job to make an enjoyable end product.

Let me know what you think about the chapter! <3

I dont get it, how do i react on the android version? There is some specific area on the screen to click or...?

Holy fuck that is fast... I can barely even read the letters before the timer goes off. Then I need to find the letter on my keyboard *and* press it... But maybe that's just because I play visual novels and not games that actually require reaction speed...

EDIT: Well, it seems the sequence is the same every time so I can just store it in short term memory, and press the keys before my eyes even register the letters, which is far easier for me.

Yeah, that's more or less what I heard from folks. As a gamer myself, I found it challenging but passable; however, that's through my own bias and experience with PC gaming.

In a later build I reduce the key options, number of successes required, and increase the time to press each one. That will allow the win/lose condition to be more of a choice for each player.

Well, the only problem I have with it is those letters are too hard to identify, because of the low contrast between the bright background and the white characters, also lowercase "e" and "c" look too similar. It would be better with higher contrast and capital letters or using ARXG instead, I think. Well, I suppose they are meant to be almost illegible for handicap purpose, but yeah, it's kinda too much.

There's QTEs in it now? Dang, thats why i stopped playing the Killigan's Treasure reboot welp. ๐Ÿ™ƒ

Yeeeah I also stopped playing Killigan's Treasure... it's still installed in case I change my mind at some point. But this is just pressing one key before a timer ends, you don't need actual precision timing skills. And in this game you can just do it one at a time and keep rolling back to your last success.
